What is a Men's Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program*?

Our men’s intensive outpatient treatment is ideal for those who need regular sessions with more than one type of treatment to make real progress with their personal mental health goals.

One of our most popular intensive outpatient treatment programs* is our men’s addiction treatment program. Addiction treatment needs ongoing support to help you build the coping skills you need to stay sober. You’ll have access to life skills-building treatments and supportive group therapy with us.

Substance abuse treatment and recovery, however, is just one of the ways we can help men with their mental health.

We can help you if you are struggling with bipolar disorder and cannot get a handle on your mood swings to the point where it’s harming your education, career, or even relationships.

We can help if your anxiety has made it almost impossible to go outside, much less go to class, work, or social outings.

Our outpatient treatment program* is excellent for those who want a supportive environment where they can learn how to stop negative thought patterns and build healthier daily routines so that they can thrive. We also accept insurance coverage, putting our robust IOP* program into more hands.

Why Choose a Men Intensive Outpatient Program*?

There are many reasons to choose an intensive outpatient program for yourself. With us, you’ll have access to these several intensive treatment options and ongoing support throughout your recovery journey – whatever that entails:

Psychiatric Care

One of the ways our clinic in Boston stands out is that we have psychiatrists on staff. This means we can offer several key services that may not be available through other therapy options.

Our psychiatrists can help diagnose your mental health condition, which can help you immediately start understanding yourself and what you need in terms of treatment and support. In some cases, we may refer you if we believe you need inpatient treatment for your substance use disorder.

Psychiatrists are also the only ones who can prescribe medication. This means if you would benefit from anti-anxiety or antidepressant medicines, then we will include them in our intensive outpatient treatment (IOP*) services. The only part we cannot help you with is if you need a medical detox, which is when we refer you to an inpatient treatment facility.

Our psychiatrists can also serve as your primary therapist. They can help you build the necessary skills to manage symptoms and thrive in your everyday life.

If you experience extreme social anxiety, for example, we can offer individual therapy to help you stop negative thought processes, build your coping strategies, and help you put those strategies to work.

As a psychiatrist, your therapist will also be able to provide nutritional counseling, which can help improve your mental health by boosting your body’s base state.

We also have therapists on hand who specialize in unique intensive outpatient programming treatments, including:

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) teaches you mindfulness, distress tolerance, how to regulate your emotions, and improve your communication skills. It is designed to help those with depression, anxiety, or substance abuse disorders learn to understand and manage their symptoms.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a powerful tool that can help you recognize and quickly stop negative thought patterns. CBT aims to offer new ways of thinking to help you maintain a more positive mindset.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Some disorders can only be managed. Those with bipolar disorder or personality disorders can honestly struggle to thrive during university or work because of their intense mood swings. Still, at the same time, they can’t will away their disorders either. Acceptance and commitment therapy helps you accept yourself while motivating you to change what you can.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational interviewing can help those just starting our men’s addiction treatment program discover their reasons for quitting their addiction and help them find reasons to commit to the substance abuse recovery process.

Group sessions can help you build skills and also work to connect you to a community of people who understand. Social healing and connection play a massive part in recovery, particularly if you are struggling with substance abuse. Depending on your need and how you respond, we may connect you to holistic group sessions or support groups as part of your intensive outpatient program.

One type of group therapy we may organize is family therapy. This can be particularly powerful if your relationships are a massive source of stress. For example, if you have a very strenuous relationship with your parents and that stress is hurting your academic performance and quality of life.

We believe in helping you heal mentally, physically, and emotionally. That’s why we also offer holistic healing treatments that help you learn how to express yourself better, be more mindful, and self-compassionate throughout your recovery.

Who Qualifies for Intensive Outpatient Treatment?

Nearly every man can benefit from our intensive outpatient programs. The only time where you wouldn’t necessarily be a good fit is if you are just at the start of addiction treatment and need an inpatient facility or medical recovery at the hospital.

We can help you with many conditions, including:

  • Depression-related disorders
  • Anxiety-related disorders
  • Addiction treatment
  • Eating disorders
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Personality disorders like borderline personality disorder
  • ADHD
  • Grief
  • PTSD
  • and more

As an intensive outpatient program (IOP*), we can help those experiencing intense symptoms and who might need regular sessions (sometimes daily, sometimes a few times per week, and so on).

We start every treatment journey with a full evaluation. This is how we can understand if our men’s intensive outpatient program (IOP*) is right for you. Not only will we be able to determine the level of support you need, but we’ll also be able to diagnose you and connect you to the collection of treatments needed to promote long-term recovery.
